Finishing GTA 5's story is not the end — it is the moment Los Santos actually opens up. With Michael, Franklin and Trevor free of the plot, the map becomes a toy box. If you are staring at 62% completion wondering what now, start here.

1. Clean up the Strangers and Freaks

The side stories are some of Rockstar's best writing — weird, funny and occasionally dark. Several only unlock late, and a few change how you see the main cast.

2. Play the stock market properly

Replay Lester's assassination missions with the story's payout in your pocket and invest around each hit. It is the fastest legitimate route to the game's most expensive properties.

3. Buy the businesses

Golf club aside, every property — cinemas, bars, the taxi firm — generates missions and income, and owning Los Santos piece by piece is its own endgame.

4. Stunt jumps and bridges

50 stunt jumps and 50 under-the-bridge flights. Tedious on paper, weirdly meditative in practice, and a great way to see corners of the map the story never visits.

5. Find the collectibles

Spaceship parts, letter scraps and nuclear waste barrels all lead somewhere — the spaceship parts quest in particular pays off in pure Rockstar strangeness.

6. Max the shooting range and flight school

Gold medals everywhere is a completionist's Everest, and the skills quietly make free-roam chaos much more survivable.

7. Hunt the random events

Armoured trucks, hitchhikers, shootouts and one very unlucky golfer — the map is salted with small stories that never repeat the same way twice.

8. Become a creature

Peyote plants turn you into animals, from a seagull to a mountain lion. It should not work. It absolutely works.

9. Direct your own chaos

Director Mode lets you stage scenes with any character or animal, anywhere. Half the GTA videos on the internet start here.

10. Start again, differently

A second playthrough with opposite choices — and gold medals as the goal — feels like a different game, and it is the best possible warm-up for GTA 6.
