Some games get announced. GTA 6 got announced and the internet stopped for a day. Rockstar's return to Vice City is the most anticipated release in the medium's history, and between the record-breaking trailers and Rockstar's trademark silence, it can be hard to separate what is confirmed from what is wishful thinking. Here is everything that is actually known.

The release date

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on 26 May 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar originally targeted 2025 before moving the date, saying the extra time was needed to deliver the level of quality players expect. No PC date has been announced — historically, Rockstar's PC versions arrive later, and there is no confirmed exception here.

Welcome back to Vice City

The game is set in the state of Leonida, Rockstar's fictionalised Florida, with Vice City as its centrepiece. Trailers have shown beaches, swamps, keys, small towns and a neon-drenched city that feels alive in a way no open world has matched — crowds, social media clips woven into the world, and wildlife from alligators to flamingos.

Two protagonists

GTA 6 stars Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, a couple pulled into a life of crime across Leonida. Lucia, fresh out of prison as the story opens, is the series' first female lead in the modern era, and the trailers lean hard into a Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic: trust each other, or nobody survives.

What the trailers tell us

Two trailers are out. The first smashed YouTube records within hours; the second, released alongside the delay announcement, showed story beats, side activities from kayaking to mini-golf, and a world dense with detail. Eagle-eyed fans have catalogued hundreds of small features — mud physics, dynamic crowds, in-game social media — though Rockstar, as ever, confirms nothing it does not have to.

What we still don't know

There is no official word on an online mode, the map's full size, or pricing. Expect Rockstar to reveal more in the run-up to May. Until then, everything else — the leaks, the 'insider' threads, the trailer-frame forensics — should be treated as entertainment, not information. When confirmed news lands, we will update this page.
